DIRECTOR’S THOUGHTS, OCTOBER, 2026

In October, there are 3 events happening: Hershey region AACA will be hosting their annual FALL MEET October 6-9, 2026, Hershey, Pa. I know a few of our members will be attending this show whether by vending parts, as spectator(s), or as actual car participants on that Friday, show day!

The chapter meeting for October will be held on the second Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Please make this change on your calendar!! This is due to some members who vend at Hershey.

The 50TH Annual Old car Show will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026 at the Phifer’s Ice Dams, 880 Main Road, Lehighton, Pa. This event is a milestone, 50 years!!! This event is optional, but highly recommended, requiring everyone’s assistance to host a, hopefully, successful event for this chapter. Let’s make this an event everyone will not forget!!!

“FREE SPIRIT” Chapter Meeting Minutes, SEPTEMBER 1, 2026

Meeting called to order 7:34 pm. 13 members were present. Sally “WELCOMED” everyone to tonight’s meeting. Everyone was invited to share what they may have done during the summer months. Eric Hunsberger had hip surgery and is doing well. Todd Kriner had eye surgery for his 41st anniversary!

Motion to accept summer month meeting minutes, not required, no meetings.

Treasurer’s Report: John Moore reports covering May-August. For comparison purposes, we are within a couple hundred dollars of where we were a year ago. Motion to accept, Eric Hunsberger, seconded by Brent Senseny, so carried.

COMMITTEE REPORTS: Historian: no report

Lehighton: Show flyers are available for taking. Flyers were folded during the summer picnic and mailed out. 12 car registrations received. 0 flea spaces. Kathleen Duckett to do bar code again. John Moore to do flea space assigning. Will need a member to assist John, and to be at registration area.

Membership: Everyone wore their badges. William Hallman gave a Membership report: Five (5) additional membership renewals have come in for a total of 34. There are a few additional outstanding. Information is given on a new member: Gary Diltz and Amber D. Marco, Blandon, Pa, alnik@ptd.net, 1966 Wildcat Convertible. Member Dennis Snell has a new e-mail address: Buicksnell@gmail.com. Member Bob Miles now lives in Saddle River, NJ 07458. Dini Vigliano reported that Howard Kriebel, who lived near her, passed away from heart failure. His wife Martha is doing ok along with their two sons. Martha found a coin collection and stamp collection that she never knew about. Sally passed around a framed picture of members from a day tour, unknown year.

E-Newsletter/Newsletter: no concerns

Publicity: Sally placed car show ads on free web sites.

Ways -n -Means: Items sold during Das Awskht Fescht (notepad, ruler, lanyard, license plates, lapel pins). Ron Massie had called and asked for a blanket, but he never showed up (he’s 95).

OLD BUSINESS: Received a “Thank You” note from dream Come True, Blue Ridge Chapter for this chapters’ 2025 charitable donation. Sally asked who attended the Gran Nationals, August @ the NB Center? Bill Hallman and Dini Vigliano went. They reported that the tour on Friday was fabulous. They got to see lots of things such as engines half apart and fenders being built. If needed, an engine can/will be rebuilt next to NB Center.

No one reported attending the Buick Nationals in August in NY.

There were 21 members seen at DAF on Sunday, August 2. 28 Buicks were registered, and 23 arrived and were on the show field. We had plenty of volunteers to help with parking, but we got “NOODLED” again this year. John Moore attended as a vendor and reported that all vending seemed to be slow.

NEW BUSINESS: During the October meeting, nominations will be taken for the following for 2027: Director, Assistant Director, Secretary, Treasurer, Activities Director, Membership chair, 2 Borad of Directors, Newsletter editor.

Who is planning on attending the Hershey Region AACA meet in October? Sally Getz reported on next month’s 50th OLD CAR SHOW, Lehighton, Pa. Put the date on your Calendars, Sunday, October 31, 2026. The DJ contract is signed. The Awards were picked up and are with Sally. The Franklin Township Lions will provide breakfast/lunch food selections. The security deposit will be given to the Township office. Participants will receive some Ways-n-Means items as previously voted upon in the spring. Also, a special treat will be provided, cupcakes, to help celebrate the 50th. Please put the date, Sunday, October 31, on your calendar.

Sally summarized the following according to BCA JUNE meeting minutes: 2027 Buick National, Spearfish, South Dakota; 2028 National, Flint, Michigan. Motions passed: Golden West Chapter, California interested to host 2029 meet. Marty Jablonski has accepted to be Northeast Regional Director. 2026 Buick Nationals articles w/ pictures to be in November/December Bugle issue.

2026 “Holiday Gathering” to be held Tuesday, December 1 @ the Starlight Diner & Lounge. Future details forth coming.

Sally received correspondence from Anne Gibson about things all BCA members can do to recruit new members:

First-Year Discount = new members can join with a print Bugle subscription for $45.00 for the first year.

E-membership = Digital-only membership remains $35.00/year. Forms = Membership forms can be printed directly from www.buickclub.org/join.

Recruitment Tracking = For new members, they should be highly encouraged to fill out a section, “How Did You Hear About The BCA?” Cornerstone is tracking these referrals and awards will be presented @ the annual Meet to persons who recruit multiple new members.

50th ANNUAL OLD CAR SHOW

It’s finally here!!! Are you excited? On Saturday, October 31st, this chapter’s 50th Annual Old Car Show will take place!! The plaques and participation awards have been ordered. A special treat for everyone has been ordered. The DJ has been booked. The Franklin Township Lions group will be providing many food selections for the day, including breakfast and lunch. Car registrations are beginning to filter in. Be sure to save the date, OCTOBER 31, 2026!!! Chapter members will be needed at the registration table area and to direct participants as they enter the show field. So please volunteer your time for the day to help. Part of this shows huge success, is YOU, helping to host this event!! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Article by Leah Kieffer Wayne & I recently attended the AACA Grand National Meet held Aug 20 – 22 at the NB Center for American Automotive Heritage in Allentown, PA. We were showing our 1956 Corvette (Class 30A) and trailered our car to Allentown on that Thursday where there was plenty of designated trailer parking at the IronPigs Stadium parking lots. We also visited the AACA Welcome Center in the NB Center to pick up our registration packet & participants had also been encouraged to look at the show field layout map to know where their class would be parked on show day.

Friday morning dawned bright & sunny for the morning & afternoon open house tours of the NB Center. We had signed up for the morning session & upon arrival were given a self-guided tour map so everyone could see the facilities at our own pace. There was a total of 7 buildings that we were permitted to tour: The Machine Shop, Fabrication Shop, Mechanical Shop & Upholstery Shop & 3 buildings that housed some of Nicola Bulgari’s beautiful collection of cars. Each building had employees of the NB Center on hand for any questions we may have had about each of the different shops. AACA offered evening social events on Thursday & Friday night at the Mack Truck Museum & America on Wheels Museum, but we had already been to both museums, so we did not attend these events.

Saturday morning, the cars were permitted to be on the show field at 7 AM & even though we were early birds, there was still a parade of cars trying to get on the field at that time. By 10 am judging started & we were fortunate to be judged early so we had the rest of the day to view the rest of the 500 cars on the show field plus see the Zenith nominated cars which were on display in the lower level of the main NB Center building. (1932 Packard was awarded the Zenith Award). The awards banquet was held at The Palace Center on Hanover Street, Allentown. There was very limited parking at the restaurant, so we were encouraged to use the bus shuttle service that AACA was providing from the 2 host hotels. The food was typical mediocre banquet food but the friendship among fellow car enthusiast was priceless. We received the 1st Grand National Award for our Corvette & also club member Gary Hiller received a Senior Grand National Award for his 1948 Chrysler. Thank you, Leah

Annual “HOLIDAY GATHERING”

The annual “Holiday Gathering” will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2026, at the Starlite Diner n Lounge, Rt. 100, Allentown, Pa, home of the monthly dinner meetings, with social hour being 5-6 pm, followed by the serving of dinner @ 6 pm. Dinner selections will be ordering off their menu. Specialty drinks will be paid by you. “Crazy Bingo” will be the entertainment for the evening and requires EACH individual to bring a wrapped $15.00 gift, who will in return, take home an unwrapped gift by the end of the evening. I have recently purchased 1942 Buick Special Eight. I am reaching out for help sourcing some parts. The wiper motor was missing and I bought an electric motor kit from Bobs Automobilia. When I received the motor, I realized I am missing the wiper motor transmission rods. The wiper spindle / wiper arms are intact on the windshield. I also need the following parts … if possible;Heater Control Unit (my one is leaking); Dashboard Gauges (mine are in poor condition); Rear Wing Panels ??? (I think there is a panel missing on both sides at the rear of the rear wheels). I would be most grateful if someone could help me sourced these parts.
